I don’t know if you guys remember when the Too Faced holiday lipsticks came out last year in 2017 but I was obsessed with the Gingerbread Man Melted Matte liquid lipstick shade. Money was a little tight, I had just come back from Peru (I have a whole travel series here) and we were trying to fill up our savings account again. By the time I decided that I needed the Gingerbread Man Lipstick it was gone. Luckily this year the Too Faced Gingerbread Girl Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick came out as part of the TF 2018 Holiday Collection.
Too Faced Gingerbread Girl Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick Review
This limited-edition Melted Matte Lipstick is a deeper shade of red than the iconic Melted Gingerbread Man. The gingerbread-scented Melted Matte formula you love glides over lips like a gloss but dries to an ultra-matte opaque finish for color that always looks rich, full, and kissable with a gingerbread scent. — Sephora
I was so excited when this Too Faced Holiday lipstick arrived in the mail! Unlike the Too Faced Sweet Smell Of Christmas Mini-Melted Lipstick Set this holiday lipstick is full sized. It contains 0.23 oz of product (7ml) and retails for $25 at Sephora Canada. This works out to $108.70 per oz. Which is bloody expensive.
I never spend $25 on a lipstick, the most I’ve ever spent on a lip product was $20 during my Sephora Appreciation Sale Haul and that was for the Bite Beauty Dirty Chai Lipgloss which was supposed to smell like delicious coffee. It didn’t.
The Too Faced Gingerbread Girl Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick is supposed to smell like gingerbread. I’m happy to report that the claims are accurate. It has a hint of vanilla too if my nose isn’t mistaken!

Gingerbread Girl Melted Matte Packaging
The packaging of this lipstick is so well done. There’s something about good packaging that makes me adore products even more. TF has got it down with the Gingerbread Girl lipstick. Even the cardboard packaging of the Melted Matte lipsticks is well done, it’s bright, fun & colorful and it matches the shade of the Gingerbread Girl Melted Matte Lipstick.
The cap of this Too Faced Holiday lipstick is decorated not with little gingerbread men, but with gingerbread girls. Each gingerbread girl has a little pink bow in her hair. So cute!
The bottle feels very fancy to me with it’s gold lettering and double walled chamber. This lipstick feels higher-end to me than the regular lipsticks I wear. And it better, I paid $25 for it!
Too Faced Gingerbread Girl Shade
Gingerbread Girl is limited edition. It’s darker than the original Gingerbread Man lipstick which was a lighter rusty red. If Sephora stocked both last year’s gingerbread man lipstick in addition to the Gingerbread Girl lipstick I would have snapped it up in an instant. The Gingerbread Girl shade is nice but I don’t wear darker reds on my lips very often except for in blog posts like my How to wear Vampy Lipstick collab.
I was unsure about this shade when I opened my sephora haul at 9pm. Once I saw it in natural lighting my mind was completely changed. Gingerbread Girl is really pretty!
Gingerbread Girl Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick
As a dry skinned gal I have to be careful not to buy too many products that are drying on the skin. That extends to the lips. lately I’ve been wearing only glosses because I have a strange welt on my lip that is taking forever to heal. Even the dermatologist couldn’t tell me what it was…
Grossness aside, I took a chance on the Too Faced Melted Matte holiday lipsticks this year because the product contains “avocado oil, vitamin E, and hyaluronic filling spheres to moisturize and smooth lips”. The filling spheres sounded promising. I was hoping that this lipstick would be matte but not emphasize texture and settle into lip lines.
I was surprised by how comfortable Gingerbread Girl was to wear. Matte lipsticks often feel immediately drying to me but this one was comfortable for a good four hours before beginning to feel dry on my lips. It didn’t seem to cake into my lip lines either.
Longevity & Transfer
Gingerbread Girl is long wearing but not food resistant. Thanksgiving stuffing = No more lipstick. I had to use a waterproof eye makeup remover to remove an arm swatch from the back of my hand, so it does have some water resistance.
Even when the lipstick dries down I still notice a fair amount of transfer to the rim of my coffee cup. The Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks are a lot more transfer proof in my opinion but you sacrifice comfort for that transfer-proof finish. Even though Gingerbread Girl transferred it still wore away evenly.
Did you pick up the Too Faced Gingerbread Girl Melted Matte Lipstick?
Overall I really like this lipstick! I was considering returning it at first because I initially didn’t think the shade was flattering on me. After a few wears it grew on me. This melted matte formula is really comfortable. I like how evenly it wears away, I can wear Gingerbread Girl to work in confidence that I won’t look like a clown by the end of the day. I hope you guys enjoyed this review, let me know your thoughts on this year’s holiday releases. Talk soon! xx
