Hey everyone! Welcome back for an old school blogging favourites post. I’ve been trying a lot of new things throughout August and today I wanted to share what’s been working for me this month.
You might have noticed that my blogging schedule has changed. I generally don’t memorize when bloggers post, but in case you do and were wondering what’s up with my blog I wanted to just let you know that I am enjoying my Summer and taking some time to pursue other interests like video games, long walks on hot days and gardening. I didn’t realize how much yard work we would have to do when we were in our own home! Slugs have taken over my apple tree and I’ve been fighting to keep them away…
But enough about slugs, let’s talk about my August Favourites!

ColourPop seems to have changed the name of their Lippie Tints to… Lip Crayons? I guess Lip crayon is more self explanatory but it annoys me that ColourPop is so focused on pumping out new releases that they have to rename their products a month after release because they aren’t focusing on the naming of their products as much as they should be.
Anyways, I’ve been wearing the shades I picked out, Cherry Pickin’ and Maui Wowie, constantly. I have a full review of these lip crayons up already so you can see swatches & makeup looks with each shade. The formula is so creamy & comfortable and the pigment is so much better than I was expecting!

I wish I had tried these shadows months ago! I first heard about them from Joy at Mademoiselle o Lantern, and I should have checked them out immediately. If you aren’t following Joy you should be, she’s so sweet and her makeup looks are always so creative & inspiring!
These shadows remind me of a super shock shadow but they aren’t as prone to drying out. I do find that I need a primer with them but it’s worth it, they look like liquid metal on the eyes! I have the shade Ironic.

I find it so hard to Project Pan my palettes because I am constantly changing which palette I’m using. All of my makeup gets used but at a much slower rate because of the constant rotation. The ColourPop Double Entendre Palette has made it into my Summer Favourites this year.
I know, it surprised me too! I rediscovered how much I loved these shades when I was recreating the makeup looks in my review. Above is one of the looks I did for that blog post. I forgot how easy & effortless it was to wear warm bronzes and my love of them was rekindled this Summer. This palette is hardly talked about anymore because it’s not new, and the beauty industry is all about that Out with the old, in with the new attitude.
I’ve also been reaching for the sandy bronze shades in the ColourPop Mar palette this summer.
Pixi Vitamin C Skintreats reviews are coming! I received the whole line minus the facial spray in PR a month ago but I like to give myself at least a month and a half to test & review skincare. If anyone is reviewing skincare with only a week of testing I advise you to find some other reviews… our skin takes time to adjust to new products and there’s no such thing as instant results.
Anyways, it’s been 5 weeks since I started using the Pixi Beauty Vitamin C Serum and it’s already given me better results than the 23% Vitamin C Suspension from The Ordinary. Pixi’s serum must have a lower concentration because it doesn’t sting or burn. I’m able to use it daily without irritation and I’ve noticed brighter, smoother skin since adding this serum to my routine. Stay tuned for my review!
Don’t Starve Hamlet
I’ve been playing the new expansion to my favourite computer game, Don’t Starve. I remember when I first saw the trailer for this game on steam I thought it looked dumb. Then I started playing it and I was instantly addicted. It takes a surprising amount of strategy and planning to survive in Don’t starve. You have to prepare for each season which has new survival challenges (cold, heat, different food sources, etc.)
I thought that hamlet would be easier given that you can live in a little hamlet and trade for money to buy things at shops, but it’s actually much, much harder. There are new sanity challenges and weather difficulties. And every time you die you lose all your progress and have to start over! I haven’t made it through all the seasons once yet.
Don’t Starve definitely had to be in my August Favourites given how much time I’ve spent playing it lately!
Oh She Glows Mango Strawberry Guacamole
I’ve been embracing all my vegan cookbooks. I’m not a vegan but I am vegetarian and I find it pretty easy to substitute ingredients to make these recipes fit my diet. For example if it calls for almond milk or vegan cheese I’ll just substitute regular milk & cheese.
The Oh She Glows cookbooks are fantastic and I’m so excited that Angela is working on her third cookbook, set to release next Fall. The Strawberry Mango Guac from her first book has been a huge hit when we host large gatherings and it’s the perfect summer snack!
What have you been loving this August?
I hope you have had a lovely Summer! Enjoy the last few weeks of it, and then it’s pumpkin spice season y’all! I can’t wait 🙂 Thanks for reading my August Favourites.
