What I’ve been loving in August 2019 | Favourites

Hey everyone! Welcome back for an old school blogging favourites post. I’ve been trying a lot of new things throughout August and today I wanted to share what’s been working for me this month.

You might have noticed that my blogging schedule has changed. I generally don’t memorize when bloggers post, but in case you do and were wondering what’s up with my blog I wanted to just let you know that I am enjoying my Summer and taking some time to pursue other interests like video games, long walks on hot days and gardening. I didn’t realize how much yard work we would have to do when we were in our own home! Slugs have taken over my apple tree and I’ve been fighting to keep them away…

But enough about slugs, let’s talk about my August Favourites!

August Favourites 2019

Just A Tint Lip Crayons in Maui Wowie & Cherry Pickin'

ColourPop Lippie Tints/ Lip Crayons

ColourPop seems to have changed the name of their Lippie Tints to… Lip Crayons? I guess Lip crayon is more self explanatory but it annoys me that ColourPop is so focused on pumping out new releases that they have to rename their products a month after release because they aren’t focusing on the naming of their products as much as they should be.

Anyways, I’ve been wearing the shades I picked out, Cherry Pickin’ and Maui Wowie, constantly. I have a full review of these lip crayons up already so you can see swatches & makeup looks with each shade. The formula is so creamy & comfortable and the pigment is so much better than I was expecting!

Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadow - Gold Ironic

Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadows

I wish I had tried these shadows months ago! I first heard about them from Joy at Mademoiselle o Lantern, and I should have checked them out immediately. If you aren’t following Joy you should be, she’s so sweet and her makeup looks are always so creative & inspiring!

These shadows remind me of a super shock shadow but they aren’t as prone to drying out. I do find that I need a primer with them but it’s worth it, they look like liquid metal on the eyes! I have the shade Ironic.

Double Entendre Beach Bronze Eye Look

ColourPop Double Entendre Palette

I find it so hard to Project Pan my palettes because I am constantly changing which palette I’m using. All of my makeup gets used but at a much slower rate because of the constant rotation. The ColourPop Double Entendre Palette has made it into my Summer Favourites this year.

I know, it surprised me too! I rediscovered how much I loved these shades when I was recreating the makeup looks in my review. Above is one of the looks I did for that blog post. I forgot how easy & effortless it was to wear warm bronzes and my love of them was rekindled this Summer. This palette is hardly talked about anymore because it’s not new, and the beauty industry is all about that Out with the old, in with the new attitude.

I’ve also been reaching for the sandy bronze shades in the ColourPop Mar palette this summer.

Pixi Beauty Vitamin C Serum

Pixi Beauty Vitamin C Serum

Pixi Vitamin C Skintreats reviews are coming! I received the whole line minus the facial spray in PR a month ago but I like to give myself at least a month and a half to test & review skincare. If anyone is reviewing skincare with only a week of testing I advise you to find some other reviews… our skin takes time to adjust to new products and there’s no such thing as instant results.

Anyways, it’s been 5 weeks since I started using the Pixi Beauty Vitamin C Serum and it’s already given me better results than the 23% Vitamin C Suspension from The Ordinary. Pixi’s serum must have a lower concentration because it doesn’t sting or burn. I’m able to use it daily without irritation and I’ve noticed brighter, smoother skin since adding this serum to my routine. Stay tuned for my review!

Don't Starve Hamlet

Don’t Starve Hamlet

I’ve been playing the new expansion to my favourite computer game, Don’t Starve. I remember when I first saw the trailer for this game on steam I thought it looked dumb. Then I started playing it and I was instantly addicted. It takes a surprising amount of strategy and planning to survive in Don’t starve. You have to prepare for each season which has new survival challenges (cold, heat, different food sources, etc.)

I thought that hamlet would be easier given that you can live in a little hamlet and trade for money to buy things at shops, but it’s actually much, much harder. There are new sanity challenges and weather difficulties. And every time you die you lose all your progress and have to start over! I haven’t made it through all the seasons once yet.

Don’t Starve definitely had to be in my August Favourites given how much time I’ve spent playing it lately!

Oh She Glows Angela Liddon

Oh She Glows Mango Strawberry Guacamole

I’ve been embracing all my vegan cookbooks. I’m not a vegan but I am vegetarian and I find it pretty easy to substitute ingredients to make these recipes fit my diet. For example if it calls for almond milk or vegan cheese I’ll just substitute regular milk & cheese.

The Oh She Glows cookbooks are fantastic and I’m so excited that Angela is working on her third cookbook, set to release next Fall. The Strawberry Mango Guac from her first book has been a huge hit when we host large gatherings and it’s the perfect summer snack!

What have you been loving this August?

I hope you have had a lovely Summer! Enjoy the last few weeks of it, and then it’s pumpkin spice season y’all! I can’t wait πŸ™‚ Thanks for reading my August Favourites.

Sounds like you had a great summer. I love that you mentioned video games lol it’s a very normal thing to do but beauty bloggers seldom mention this aspect.

I’m glad that the Pixi Vitamin C line is treating you well. I am currently using their Pixi Glow Tonic (finally!) and I am loving it. Not sure why it took me so long but I think in conjunction with the rest of my skincare routine, it’s really filled a space.

    • September 16, 2019 / 3:50 pm

Haha yeah it definitely doesn’t fit into that beauty/lifestyle niche so I think a lot of us don’t talk about it online. But I always love learning who else loves video games!

I’m glad you’re loving the Pixi Glow Tonic! It’s such a cult classic, Pixi makes some great toners 😊

Great faves! Still got my eye on that vitamin c serum.

I love it! I started using the Fourth Ray Beauty Vitamin C Serum and I think the Pixi one is much better.

So happy to hear you’ve been enjoying your summer, Cleia! β™‘ That’s so cute that you’ve been gardening & that you have your own apple tree! I hope you found a way to get rid of those darn slugs!

I love the shades in that CP palette, they do all look so effortless & easy to wear. The beauty industry really is all about the “out with the old & in with the new” attitude.

I totally agree that skincare takes some time to test out but, for me, I have realized that I do get instant results from certain products I’ve tried so it is possible!

The Don’t Starve games sound so cool! Steam won’t work on my computer for some reason though. πŸ™

Thanks so much for sharing your faves, babe! I enjoyed reading about them!

    • September 8, 2019 / 12:44 am

The slugs are still there unfortunately, I’ve heard that salt will get rid of them but I’m struck with the ethical dilemma of if it’s really cruel or not. They certainly are pests though!

It totally is, did you see that GIANT Kathleen Lights palette that ColourPop just released? I’m still trying to get through all my little palettes! I think I’m exhausted from new things.

That’s true! If you have amazing results right away that’s the sign of a great product πŸ™‚

Aww no!! That sucks, Steam is my favourite gaming platform.

Thank for for reading and your genuine comments as always! x

      • September 8, 2019 / 9:54 pm

Aw, oh my gosh, that would be kind of mean to kill them in their own home. What are they doing that is so pestering? Or are they just ugly to you lol? They make me squirm.

I did see the Kathleen Lights palette but big ones like that never speak to me for some reason. πŸ˜›

I’m still so sad I can’t get Steam!!

Aw of course, Cleia!! I love reading your posts. <3 <3

        • September 16, 2019 / 3:30 pm

Lol they’re slimy and they destroy all my plants. They eat all of my vegetables and all the apples on my tree 😭

          I hope you’re having a great week!

          • September 16, 2019 / 8:11 pm

            Rude!!! LOL.

            You, too!! <3

  4. September 3, 2019 / 9:22 pm

Loved your post, Cleia! πŸ’› It’s always fun reading favorites posts! All of these sound fantastic! I recently tried out Essence lip glosses and they’re fantastic. Will definitely have to try out their chrome eyeshadows now. They look gorgeous! I like that Essence has affordable products and they seem to all be really great quality! Thanks so much for sharing these finds!! x

    • September 6, 2019 / 2:23 pm

Thanks Nunzia! I need to try those glosses then! I love that Essence is so affordable, and the chrome shadows are definitely worth the $5.99. I’ll be trying more from them in the future! Thanks for reading x

Wow ColourPop already renamed those lippies?? Why am I not surprised! πŸ˜†

    • September 2, 2019 / 1:27 pm

Right!? I was so offended when my links to the original names started turning up broken links. Like really!? The product just came out! grrrr!

      • September 3, 2019 / 8:22 am

They just can’t keep up with themselves I think!

        • September 6, 2019 / 2:27 pm

Did you see that giant kathleen lights palette that just came out!? It’s huge! I don’t think I would be able to decide on what shades to use each day..

          • September 7, 2019 / 8:49 am

Yup, I did. It looks like one of those huge artistry palettes. Too big for me with too many choices!

  6. August 30, 2019 / 10:21 pm

That colourpop palette looks awesome! It looks like the kind of palette that I would actually use all the colors!

Don’t starve totally sounds like my kind of video game.

I have the first oh she glows cookbook and I’ve enjoyed the recipes too, which is impressive since I’m neither vegan or vegetarian. πŸ™‚

    • August 31, 2019 / 8:25 pm

The DE palette is really nice! Anyone can wear the shades and everything goes together so nicely πŸ™‚

You know it’s good when non-vegetarians enjoy the recipes too!

Great post Cleia!! That eyeshadow looks so lovely. I’ve only read a few of Joy’s reviews but she does make good reviews and is a great gal. I have to try ColourPop’s Lip crayons! I like both shades you have πŸ™‚ I never knew you played a bit of video games haha, Don’t Starve is one of my faves but is also quite frustrating!! I’ve never lasted all 4 seasons yet either.. I’ve seen the trailer for Hamlet and I really want to try it, but never could’ve imagined it’d be harder. Currently on Don’t Starve Together so I can play with my boyfriend! Thanks for sharing girl! <3

I love her blog! I’ve found so many great products from her recommendations πŸ™‚
Yes!! Video games were my childhood, I grew up in Mario, Zelda and final fantasy. These days I play a lot of PC games too!
Hamlet is fun but soooo much harder! The seasons themselves are hard to prepare for. It’s fun trying to survive though! I haven’t played don’t starve together yet, I imagine it would be fun!

  8. August 30, 2019 / 11:24 am

lovely post and omg thank you for mentioning me, I am happy that you got try these eyeshadows thanks to me!! I honestly think they are awesome, especially for the price!

    • August 30, 2019 / 4:02 pm

Of course! I wouldn’t have heard about these shadows if it wasn’t for you. I meant to link to your blog too, I’ve just updated the post with a link πŸ™‚ I’m always awed by how wet & metallic these look 😍

      • September 2, 2019 / 7:27 am
