What I’ve been Loving In February

February Favorites

Hello! How have you all been? I feel like I’ve barely gotten to talk with you guys since reducing my blog schedule. 2020 has been so busy, I was hoping for a slower year but nope! To be fair if I hadn’t been sick for literally an entire month I might have felt differently.

I’m trying to make an effort to be social this year instead of hermitting myself in my house and pouring all of myself into the internet. It’s kind of working. I’ve been spending more time with friends & family, and Mike & I even snuck a date night in! We also just booked a few days away in Banff for our anniversary. We haven’t been in a long time, so we chose a fancier hotel and are planning on going to the Fairmont Lake Lousie for High Tea and doing some hiking! I’m looking forward to it.

Anyways, that’s what’s going on with me so far in 2020. Life hasn’t slowed down but I’ve still been enjoying trying new makeup and skincare throughout the last month. Today I’m writing an OG favourites post. I’ve made a few life changing discoveries this month and I can’t wait to share them!

Mineral Fusion Nail Polish Remover and Zoya Polish

Things I’ve been Loving In February – Beauty

Mineral Fusion Nail Polish remover

Mineral Fusion Nail Polish Remover blew my freakin’ mind this year. I love to paint my nails at home but I always find it so tedious removing the last traces of polish from my fingernails. I usually buy QUO polish remover from Shoppers Drug Mart but I was wasting an entire cotton ball for each fingernail!

I decided to try Mineral Fusion, a brand that was highly recommended on Amazon. This nail polish remover is pricier than Quo but it’s fantastic — I can remove the polish from both hands with only one cotton ball. I’m shook!

I’m never going back to Quo polish remover, Mineral Fusion has it beat. It’s also acetone free!

Zoya Nail Polish and OPI Matte Top Coat

OPI Matte Top Coat

I finally found the OPI matte top coat at Marshalls! It came in a $10 set with a magenta polish. I kept the matte top coat and gifted the magenta polish to my sister in law for Christmas. I love that I can change any polish into a matte finish now! My favourite winter combo is currently the shade 1735 from KL Polish (a cozy blue that is sadly not available anymore) paired with this top coat.

If you can’t tell I’m pretty happy about my new Zoya Polishes too!

Bh Cosmetics Glam Reflections Rosé Palette

BH Cosmetics Love In London Review

BH Cosmetics Eyeshadows

At the moment I’m absolutely obsessed with BH Cosmetics. I bought my first BH Cosmetics eyeshadow palette in December and I was absolutely blown away by the quality. I specifically picked up the Love In London (reviewed here) and Desert Oasis palettes. The mattes are the most buttery, pigmented things I’ve ever seen at the under $20 price point. I think the only palette I own that’s actually better than this is my Tati Beauty Textured Neutrals Vol 1 Palette. Move over Colourpop, there’s a new favourite in town!

The metallics in these palettes have such a beautiful, foiled shine. They’re too shimmery to be worn as a face highlight but they’re stunning on the eyes.

I recently picked up the Glam Reflections Rosé palette for $7CAD at Marshalls. It’s been discontinued online, but I’m mentioning it anyways. I encourage you to pay less attention to whether a release is “older” or not. I see so many creators apologizing for sharing something that isn’t “new” and I’m like, who the hell cares? If you love it, love it! Never apologize.

Benefit Cosmetics Bad Gal Bang Mascara

Benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara

Recently one of my ColourPop BFF Mascara’s bit the bullet – it rolled off a counter and the tube completely broke… What kind of cheap packaging does that!?

I never purchase new mascaras because it takes me so long to finish the ones I already have. I have a backlog of unopened minis from when I was subscribed to a million beauty boxes, so I went through my minis and chose the Bad Gal Bang Mascara from Benefit Cosmetics.

This mascara is so good! It gives my lashes serious length, and while it doesn’t do much for curl (nothing does for me) I find that the effect gives my lashes enough of a boost that I haven’t worn eyeliner in a month. This is actually a big step for me! Bad Gal Bang doesn’t flake and the tiny spikes on the wand are great for getting at my teeny tiny short bottom lashes. I found tiny baby blonde bottom lashes that I didn’t even know existed with this mascara.

I’d love to say that I would purchase it full size, but let’s be real — I have four mascaras in the queue which will take me three years to get through. But for the record I highly recommend the Benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara,

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Creme Extra Dry Skin

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream for Extra Dry Skin

I can’t rave about this gel moisturizer enough. I’ve shared been sharing hydro boost in favourites posts since 2017!

If you have dry skin like mine that can also be acne prone Neutrogena Hydro Boost is a lifesaver. It’s lightweight so it doesn’t clog my pores like thicker creams and it’s packed with hyaluronic acid!

I keep testing out other moisturizers but after my Paula’s Choice Resist Line trial resulted in dry flaky patches on my cheeks I’ve realized that this is it. My holy grail, my ride or die. Nothing gets better than Hydro Boost for me and I’m going to stop trying to find something better. After two days of using this my dry patches were almost gone, and with continued use they will stay gone. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

Pixi Matte Last Liquid Lipsticks

Pixi Matte Last Liquid Lipsticks

I don’t understand why these lipsticks don’t have a 5 star rating online. I’m really skeptical of Shoppers drug mart reviews these days, I don’t trust most of the reviews on shopping sites anymore. These lipsticks dry down matte, but they’re not incredibly drying like ColourPop’s Ultra Matte lips or the Kylie Matte lip kits.

The formula is really comfortable, and I find that these lipsticks last a good amount of time before fading. My favourite is the shade Posh Nude from Maryam Maquillage’s Pixi Pretties Collab. It’s sad that you can only get that shade in a kit with a black glittery fairy lights shadow. I’ll never use the shadow but I love the lipstick.

I’m also loving the shade Pleasing Pink!

*These lipsticks were gifted to me, but this post isn’t sponsored. All opinions are my own*

Lifestyle Favourites

Our new Bed

My husband & I decided that it was about time we bought a proper bed frame. Now that we’re in a home without carpets our creaky metal bed frame with wheels was rolling across the room every time we got in bed.

We spent some time browsing Wayfair before settling on the Braiden Sleigh Bed. I love the filters on wayfair, you can narrow down thousands of results to find what you really want. We needed a bed with a headboard that wasn’t going to be five feet tall. It’s surprisingly hard to find shorter headboards in stores these days!

As a disclaimer, the instructions to put this bed together were awful. It took us three hours when it really only should have taken half the time. They instructed us to use the wrong screws for the headboard and never mentioned securing the headboard to the rest of the frame, or what screws to use for that. There were also no words, only diagrams. We were pretty grumpy after a few hours, but my husband got to try out his new power drill so he wasn’t too upset.

Now that the bed frame is together though I must say, I love it! The bed is now stationary and doesn’t roll across the room when I sit down. There’s no more creaking every time I turn over in my sleep and the pillows no longer fall behind the bed. I’m so glad we decided to upgrade!

schitts creek

Schitt’s Creek

Mike & I are on season 2 of Schitt’s Creek. I didn’t know this but it’s a Canadian show! The premise is that a wealthy family loses everything and has to move to a backwater town called Schitt’s Creek without any of the comforts they’re used to. Everyone in the family is ridiculous, except maybe the Dad who is trying to hold his family together.

My husband I I like to yell “EW DAVID” just like Alexis sometimes. Watch the show, you’ll get it.

The Wolf Among Us Telltale Games

The Wolf Among Us

I finally played The Wolf Among Us, a darker fantasy inspired story by Telltale Games. The game focuses on a world where Fables come to life and live in Fabletown, the magical side of New York. The Fables are Glamoured so Mundanes don’t know what they are. You play as Bigby Wolf, otherwise known as the Bag Bad Wolf. The Wolf has left his past behind and is now the Sherif of Fabletown. Early on in the game you begin working a murder case. It gets rather dark.. but the story was compelling enough that I had to know what happens!

This is one of those games like Life Is Strange where all the choices you make matter and will affect the outcome of the story. Speaking of Life Is Strange, I just completed Life Is Strange 2 Chapter 1!

What have you been loving this Month?
Thanks for reading x

I remember you talking about the hydro boost, unless I’m mistaken. I wish I could try it, I have a ton of skincare at the moment lol.
I’m glad you really loved the BH Cosmetics palette, and after reading your review I figured it would be a favorite 😊
I’ve heard of Schitt’s Creek, I’ll have to find it either on Netflix or hulu or somewhere to give it a try.

    • April 9, 2020 / 1:49 am

You’re not wrong, I’ve mentioned it a few times! It’s such a great moisturizer if you like gel textures.
I can’t believe I’m only just trying their palettes now, they’re SO good!
I heard it was going to be discontinued on netflix soon, but I could be wrong. It’s a great show πŸ™‚

      • April 10, 2020 / 11:55 pm

Ever since I tried a gel moisturizer I’ve been on a hunt for another one but not many brands are CF.
Better late than never! And have I mentioned that their formulas are better now than they used to be? Lol
Ah well shoot. I’m sure I can find it somewhere else

        • April 11, 2020 / 7:59 pm

Oh right, that is a problem! We need more brands to get on the Cruelty Free train πŸ™ I keep forgetting Neutrogena isn’t CF.
I think you have! The latest palettes have been amazing πŸ™‚

          • April 12, 2020 / 8:24 pm

it’s alright, to be fair I do have some exceptions, like Tony Moly sheet masks. Everything I have tried from them has worked out for my skin. It is kind of hard coming across CF K-Beauty but I think I found one brand. Just hard getting a hold of their stuff :/

          • April 27, 2020 / 12:21 pm

Especially right now with shipping delays and stuff. I hope you can get more from them!

I loved reading what you’ve been loving last month! My sister’s colourpop mascara broke too! She didn’t even drop it, it just broke and made a huge mess. I also finally got around to buying the Neutrogena Hydro Gel Dry Skin moisturizer, and omg, it literally works like a dream. My skin absolutely loves it. Thank you so much for the recommendation! I’ve only got around to playing one of the wolf among us chapters, but I have to get around finishing it. I remember loving it so much! There are only so many hours in a day, and finding the balance to play games, read, blog, work, and everything else is so difficult sometimes. I’m going to go back and finish it after I finish Witcher 3! Great post, happy March πŸ™‚ xx

I like my bh Cosmetics Opalescent Palette and the shimmers, in particular, are unreal. I always hear amazing things about the Neutrogena Hydro Boost range and will definitely check out one of its moisturisers once mine has ran out. I loved reading your February faves πŸ™‚

    • March 5, 2020 / 7:07 pm

The opalescent palette looks so stunning!! I’ve looked at it a few times online. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
Hydro boost is such a great line. Thanks for reading! x

  4. March 2, 2020 / 6:22 pm

I love this post! So cool to see a range of things featured here. I SO badly want to get my hands on the Pixi lipsticks. I feel like they’re not hyped enough for their great products.

I haven’t bought anything from BH Cosmetics in such a long time but these palettes look stunning. I’m thinking I need to place an order soon, as I’m sure their formula and things has improved since their Raye Raye palette, which is the last time I bought something from them πŸ˜† I also am eyeing a few of their brush sets. I love the quality and the price is great too!

  5. March 2, 2020 / 4:24 am

I’m glad that the Hydro Boost works really well for you because it doesn’t so much for me! Speaking of moisturisers, I have been so lazy recently with my skincare routine, particularly moisturising! Need to get back into it.

When you were talking about your old bed frame rolling, I had to laugh. I can’t imagine how that must have been every night?!

    • March 5, 2020 / 6:44 pm

I’m sorry it doesn’t work as well for you! I remember not liking the original as much, but the extra dry skin formulation is great for me. Always moisturize!

Oh my gosh, that bedframe was awful! It didn’t bother us as much with carpet, but on the hardwood floors the rolling and creaking was awful πŸ˜‚

  6. February 29, 2020 / 10:33 am

Oh my gosh, I just started watching Schitt’s Creek last night! I’m only three episodes into the first season, but I can see why people are obsessed with it. I can’t wait to continue binging!

I know you’ve spoken about that Hydro Boost moisturizer in the past, and I really, really need to try it because I love that whole line of products. I’m currently using the Hydro Boost serum and I would totally repurchase it. If you can get that in CA, check it out!

I got obsessed with matte top coats a few years ago, and was literally making all my polishes matte for a while. Now I just don’t paint my nails as much as I used to, but I want to get back into it. I have so many polishes sitting around!

    • February 29, 2020 / 4:46 pm

Schitts Creek is hilarious! The latest season just won an award as well. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!

I’d love to try that serum too! I’ve seen it in store, but I’ll wait until they have a sale I think πŸ™‚

It’s cool how many different top coats and polish styles are available now! I remember like ten years ago there wasn’t nearly the same selection.

      Thanks for reading!

      • March 2, 2020 / 12:27 pm

I just finished the first season last night; onto season 2 now! I bet you’ll really like the serum; let me know if you ever try it! Oh I know, we’re so spoiled for choice for everything beauty-related now.

  7. February 28, 2020 / 1:12 pm

Yay for the London palette making another appearance! That hydro boost moisturiser is one I want to try next, do you use it for daytime, nighttime or both? Never tried a matte top coat, sounds interesting! Those Pixi lip colours are really pretty too x

    • February 28, 2020 / 5:32 pm

      Yes! It’s so good 😊
I use Hydro boost day and night. I’ve never really understood using a different moisturizer for day & night, unless it has SPF.
The Matte top coat is so cool! Why buy matte polish when you can customize any polish you already have? 😁 Thanks for reading!

      • February 28, 2020 / 7:22 pm

I tend to use a more hydrating thicker moisturiser at night and a moisturiser with SPF during the day. I don’t think I’ve used matte nail polish either πŸ˜‚
