aIt’s too soon for another anti-haul since I posted one a few weeks ago, but ColourPop just released a new collab that has me worked up to the point of writing and entire post about why I’m not buying the ColourPop Disney Designer Collection. Also known (by me) as the collab that had so much potential but instead settled to be mediocre. I love ColourPop and I love Disney. Frozen is my second favourite movie, and I absolutely loved Aladdin growing up. I could watch Moana over and over again, so why don’t I like this collaboration? Let me tell you..
ColourPop Disney Designer Collection Packaging
The ColourPop Disney Designer Collection seems to have been designed to look like an upscale luxury collection. ColourPop’s designers always do a great job with their PR boxes, I can’t deny that the packaging is eye catching. But I thought for a Disney collaboration there should have been more “Disney” to the collection once you throw away the cardboard inserts.
The palette has made up signatures for each princess, as does each lipstick. Aside from that there is nothing about the packaging that really feels special and princessy to me. The Lux lipstick packaging is exactly the same as the ColourPop’s regular Lux lipsticks aside from that signature. And just from experience with my own ColourPop products their labels wear away quite fast on their lipsticks.
Lux Lipstick Choice for Each Princess
The lipstick shade ranges don’t match my perception of the princesses with the exception of Snow White, which is the most basic red there is. It’s a lovely red, don’t get me wrong but is it really special? Does it really warrant a purchase just because it has Snow White’s name on it? And what is up with that hot pink for Jasmine? I LOVE Jasmine, she’s my favourite disney princess aside from Anna from Frozen. I don’t understand why that hot pink is Jasmine’s shade, it’s not even remotely close to her lipstick in the movies.
The shade they chose for Belle is pretty but I think overall Disney & ColourPop could have done better.
It’s A Princess Thing Eyeshadow Palette
I appreciate that ColourPop named the shades in the It’s A Princess Thing Palette according to things that they actually resemble but the only way I can describe this palette is basic. I would buy it for a 12 year old who wanted to experiment with their first eyeshadow palette, but for me these pinks and neutrals are so boring. The only two shades that interest me in this palette are Ray and Poison Apple.
I would have liked to see shades that reflected princesses who are fun and feminine while also being strong and independent. All those boring neutral pink shades seem like they tried to emulate a prim and proper idealistic woman. Why couldn’t we have an orange called Rajah for Jasmine’s tiger? Or a Bright Yellow for Flounder, Ariels best friend? Shades like that would have been so much more unique to me and might have actually inspired me to buy the palette. I want a palette for the adventurous princess, not a designer princess.
To Be Fair…
There are a few products in the ColourPop Disney Designer Collection that actually look nice to me. Like I said, I do like the look of the Belle Lux Lipstick, and I think the Bobbity lipgloss is pretty. I think these products would be nice if released as regular ColourPop products but there is nothing special about them that makes me think Disney aside from the signatures.
If you love the idea of the Disney Designer Makeup Collection you absolutely don’t have to listen to me. If you’re feeling these shades and feel they will help you unleash your inner princess then go for it! I just expected more from a franchise I’ve watched since I was five years old.
I wish that ColourPop would cool it on the new releases. I’m ColourPop’d out. It’s exhausting trying to keep up with their releases, let alone the releases of every other makeup brand out there. I still love ColourPop’s formula and I have tons of positive reviews of their products up on my blog. The Disney Designer Collection unfortunately left me disappointed.
What do you think of the ColourPop Disney Designer Collection?
Will you be buying it?
Thanks for reading! I’m really curious about what you guys will think about this collection, I was initially so excited when I heard that ColourPop would be collaborating with Disney but once I saw the products it fell flat for me. Let me know what you think of this collection!
