I can’t even remember how long it’s been since I wrote a favourites post. It’s probably been a year at this point. I remember when I used to write them monthly, back before I had a full time job. I miss having so much free time! But here we are, I managed to find some spare moments to take a couple photos and put together a list of things I’ve been enjoying over the winter months. There’s a mix of beauty and home/lifestyle products here, so I hope you enjoy reading!
Winter Favourites 2021
First I want to share a couple of my winter beauty favourites with you. Winter has left my skin extremely dry, so I’ve moved completely away from matte finishes. My lipstick of choice right now is the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick formula. It comes in six different finishes and I’m enamored with the cream version! I haven’t tried the other finishes yet but I probably will soon. The three shades I own are Ravenswood, Nighthawk and Insanity. I love them all. The formula is extra creamy and hydrating and it doesn’t emphasize dry lip lines.
Something I didn’t expect to love, and that actually took me a whole year to realize I liked it, is the Pur Cosmetics 4 in 1 pressed mineral foundation. To be honest when I received it in an Ipsy bag in January 2020 I wasn’t in love. I tried applying it with a brush and the coverage was minimal, it didn’t really add anything to my complexion. Fast forward to this past Fall, when I realized that it applies much better with a dry sponge. It actually gives me a nice medium coverage with a sponge, but the reason I love it is that it helps prevent break outs under my mask. I noticed a huge difference in chin breakouts when I started wearing this. Since the inside of my mask gets quite humid from my breath I think having a mattifying powder helps to absorb some of the oil and moisture.
Baby Yoda Palette
I couldn’t write a favourites post without talking about The Child Palette from ColourPop! I reviewed this adorable little palette a few weeks ago and I’m head over heels for it. The packaging is adorable, the colours are reminiscent of The Mandelorian and I genuinely love the shades in the palette. Greens just get me.
Lastly I adore having pink hair! I decided to do something fun with my hair in January and I have no regrets! Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get many great photos of the colour, it’s really hard to photograph the back of my head but you can see some of the highlights in my ColourPop Grandeur palette review. My hair has faded to a much lighter pink since I got it done. Every time I washed my hair I had a different shade of pink! I’ve picked up the Moroccan Oil rose gold color depositing mask in my last Sephora Haul, but I think I need the hibiscus shade to get the full impact.
Now for some lifestyle additions to this post, I’ve been enjoying burning candles in my home this winter. I’ve always loved candles, but I especially enjoy them in the winter months when its cold out! Winter is meant for cozy blankets and warm cuddly scents. I bought seven new candles between October and February, which I’m not especially proud of (no self control!) but hey, my house smells nice! I’m really enjoying the Chalet Chic candle from Indigo Scents, which was available over the holidays at Chapters. I love the Indigo Scents collection, I usually pick up a few candles every fall.
I’ve also been burning the Fresh Balsom, Cinnamon Irish Cream and Dutch Apple Waffle candles from Bath & Body works!
I’ve really enjoyed reading this year in general. I’m already at 11 books read for 2020, which is incredible for me. One find that I stumbled upon completely by accident was From Blood & Ash by Jennifer Armentrout. True story, I bought this book on kindle by accident. I finished a different book and was clicking through recommendations, and those of you who have a kindle know that the web browser really isn’t great. I accidentally clicked on the “buy with one click” button on From Blood & Ash. On kindle I didn’t have a button to reverse the decision like on a normal browser!
I’m glad that I did though, because this book was a wild ride. I noticed from the comments on Goodreads that people either loved or hated the book. I loved it, and I immediately devoured the second book. There was a twist at the end of book two that I didn’t see coming at all. Full disclaimer, this series isn’t for kids. There are adult themes, including sex, so if that bothers you stay away from this series.
A more YA friendly series that I also started reading is the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. This series has kept me guessing, and I’m constantly ingrigued by the characters and plot. It follows assassin Celaena Sardothien, convicted criminal trying to win back her freedom and become the king’s champion. I’m on book three and I need to know what happens next!
What are you loving this winter?
As I said it’s been a LONG time since I posted a favourites post. I’ll try to do more of them throughout the year, but we’ll see how busy I am with my songwriting classes starting up. I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know what you want to see next. Stay safe! x
