Ipsy April 2017 “Sideshow” Glam Bag Review

It’s Ipsy time! My bag took longer than usual to arrive this month, but it’s finally here. The theme this month is Sideshow which is supposed to give off carnival vibes. In my opinion it is nowhere near carnival season, but I’m also Canadian. In Alberta we basically have six months of winter, four months of almost winter, and two months of Summer.

Ipsy is a monthly makeup subscription service that ships 4-5 deluxe and full sized products each month.

Price: $10 US. Add $4.95 for shipping to Canada.
Value: Glam bags can average out to around $49US, but this can vary as glam bags are customized. In addition each month comes with a new makeup bag.
Customize: Fill out a profile quiz to get personalized products. leaving feedback on your products in theory makes the curation better month to month.

The bag this month is… Not my favourite. I don’t want to complain too much because there are subscribers who absolutely loved the bag this month and we all have different tastes. I don’t like it, but if you do that’s wonderful! I’m sort of happy I didn’t like the bag this month because I won’t feel guilty about recycling it!

Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Face Toner Sample Size 1oz $4.05
I haven’t used this toner yet as I currently have one on the go, but I love the pretty glass bottle and it smells like… coconut? Or maybe it’s the truffle I’m smelling. Either way, it smells wonderful. I’m at my limit for extra makeup right now so I’m happy to get more skincare to try out.

TonyMoly Liptone Lipcare Stick Full Sized $10
TonyMoly is a K-Beauty brand. I received this lip balm in Rose Blossom. I was hoping for Honey but rose was my second choice! You can definitely stop and smell the roses in this balm (pun intended) and it feels very soothing on the lips.

Jesse’s Girl Liquid Eyeliner Full Sized $6.99
Honestly, I have SO much eyeliner right now! I thought I had unchecked the eyeliner box on my profile but it turns out I was wrong. I’m going to leave this one in the packaging until I’m ready for it, in maybe six years.

Defy & Inspire Nail Lacquer in Paradise Island Full Sized $7.49
This five free créme polish can be bought at Target. I love the colour, I don’t have anything like this! Hopefully it turns out to be as long wearing as it claims.

Ciaté Bamboo Bronzer Deluxe Sample $8
I’m happy I’ve been getting more mid to high end brands like Ciaté from Ipsy lately. I was hoping for the shade Star Island, (mainly because I thought it sounded the prettiest) but I got Palm Island instead. It’s brighter than my current bronzers so it will be nice for the spring season when I’m not as tanned. It has a very buttery texture and applies well.

Value: My bag had a value of $36.53. That seems to be about average for Ipsy lately, but I’ve been really happy with the curation lately so I’m cool with it. My favourites this month are the toner and the bronzer!

Maybelline Velvet Matte Foundation

Hey loves! I took a little break from blogging last week to give myself a bit of a refresh. It’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling like you need to blog instead of blogging because you want to, so I felt I needed some time away. I focused on some things I’ve put on the back burner, like my guitar and a few video games. I’m back today with a mini review!

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation is labelled as a Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation. The hydrating label was what drew me to this product as I have very dry skin this time of year.

Formula This foundation is somewhere between a mouse and a cream. It’s very light and whipped. I don’t personally find it very hydrating, but I feel like my skin is also drier than most so I need more out of my hydrating products. It blends easily with a brush, but I find it works best to use a wet blending sponge.

Coverage I consider this a medium coverage foundation. If you’ve read any of my foundation posts you probably know that I am a light coverage foundation kind of girl, but if you apply it thinly and really blend it you can get a lighter coverage. Alternatively you can apply more for fuller coverage. The shade I chose is totally wrong for me, it’s more pink and orange than my actual skin tone so I apply this very lightly when I use it! Unfortunately this foundation was very cakey on me even when applied lightly. It could just be that my skin is so dry that everything cakes on the dry spots, but I think it was a bit more than that.

Shade Selection There are twelve shades to choose from. The colour of the bottles I have found are really not accurate to what the shade actually is, so don’t be like me and pick based on the bottle! Make sure you use a tester to get the right shade. I have the shade 05 Warm Porceline and I definitely needed a shade or two lighter. My before and after is below!

Have you Used Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation? Unfortunately this really isn’t a holy grail for me, but I will be using up the bottle before I try something else! Thanks for reading! If you enjoyed this post please give it a like and remember to follow me here and on Instagram  & Twitter! Ipsy “Sideshow” April Reveals are Up!

Hey beauties! April’s Ipsy reveals are up! The theme this month is Side ShowYou can check out what you are receiving this month by logging into your account, OR you can subscribe with my referral link HERE for a cute monthly bag of beauty products!

The bag this month is shaped like a little carnival ticket. Honestly, I was rather dismayed about the bag. January and March had such cute designs but I can’t see myself ever using this one! Ah well, I have too many anyways.

The Products this month are a nail polish, toner, bronzer, eyeliner, and lip balm. I’m so excited for the nail polish guys, I don’t have anything quite so mint green! The toner is a 1oz sample so I will definitely be using that and I think the bronzer will work with my skin tone quite well. The eyeliner I could do without, only because I have literally nine eyeliners in my makeup bag already. I will be using the Tony Moly lip balm as well, I always manage to loose my lip balms, or worse, accidentally put them through the dryer!

What are you receiving this month!? Thanks for reading loves, remember to check out my Instagram  & Twitter!

Spring Project Pan: Makeup & Skincare

I took a look at my makeup and skincare shelves yesterday and felt overwhelmed. In just over a year I’ve gone from a single half full makeup bag to an entire box full of makeup products and a basket full of skincare. I decided okay, I’ve really got to work on using some of this stuff up! Enter project pan with the intent of “hitting pan” on all of these products in the next two months.

March Favorites

I don’t have a lot of favourites to show you this month but I have a few things worth mentioning. I’ve been on early morning shifts for the past two weeks so if I’m being honest I’m practically a zombie right now. My beauty routine has been incredibly low key, I selected exactly which products to use for two weeks and put them in a makeup bag in my bathroom so I wouldn’t fuss over what to use in the morning. It’s crazy how I can condense an hour long routine into ten minutes!

Becca Highlighting Wand in Opal
I picked up this highlighter mini in my Most Recent Sephora Haul. It looks dewy and natural and is incredibly easy to use! I was on the fence about Becca’s prices but after using it I decided that the cost is 100% worth it.

Mystery Moisturizer
In my post How to become a Elle Canada Grand Prix Juror I showed you guys the mystery products that I’m testing. I have NO idea what this moisturizer is, but it worked great for me. It’s almost a gel consistency and it absorbs super quickly leaving my face moisturized all day long. When I’m through the testing period in April I’ll share what it is! Do you have any guesses as to what it could be?

Books & Decor

Makeup: Your Life Guide to Beauty Style and Success Online and Off
The aesthetic of this book as a whole just makes me so happy, the layout and style of the book is just adorable. I found the first half of the book to be really interesting as it’s focused on Michelle Phan’s life story, and her skincare, beauty, and fashion tips! The second half wasn’t as useful to me unfortunately. Her career advice is very generic, and seems to be geared towards twelve year olds applying for their first job at a supermarket. I enjoyed the read anyways, I felt so cozy curling up with a mug of tea and reading something light for a change!

The Ocean at the End of the Lane
I’ve been wanting to read this Neil Gaiman book ever since it came out! Kindle featured it as a daily deal so I downloaded the ebook for $2.99. It’s a quick read and not at all what I expected but I enjoyed it nevertheless. It left me with a strange haunted feeling once I was done. The melancholy ending really got me thinking, which is rare for me especially after such a short read!

Embrace Perfections Tray
This came from Indigo Chapters! It’s so simple & elegant and I love the message on it! I meant to use it as a makeup tray but instead it’s become an accent piece for my living room.

The Beauty Crop Glamazon Stick Review

At the end of February I received a new highlighting stick in my Spring Luxebox. I had never used one before, nor had I ever heard of the brand, The Beauty Crop. Some quick research told me that TBC believes in minimal ingredients in their products and is 100% Cruelty Free!

Glamazon Stick Highlighting Crayon This Highlighting crayon is made with vitamin E, cocoa butter and jojoba oil. It claims to be hydrating and long wearing. The swatch on the website doesn’t do justice to the shade of this highlighter. In person it’s a champagne shade that looks great on pale complexions, though the website makes it look like a gold shade. It retails for $16CAD.

Packaging The crayon comes in a plastic twist-up tube with a cap. I hate sharpening pencils so this is a very no fuss product for me.

Formula The crayon is very creamy and applies easily without any tugging. It gives a very healthy natural looking glow once blended without looking like you’ve drenched yourself in highlight. I like to apply it directly to my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose and blend out with my fingers as opposed to using a brush.

Shade Selection  Unfortunately this comes in only one shade. It would be lovely if TBC would make this in a couple shades to suit more skin tones, but for now what you see is what you get. Personally, this shade is perfect for me, but if you prefer a highlight with more colour or shimmer it may not be for you.

Yeah I don’t know what my hair is doing, but that glow!
